SCN Medical Director

Dr Nigel Marchbank

Dr Marchbank is a Consultant Radiologist in Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Brighton.

He was appointed Medical Director of the SCN in April 2003 and works 4 sessions a week for the SCN.

In April 2007, Dr Marchbank was elected Chair of the National Cancer Medical Director's Forum a group that meets regularly with the National Cancer Director to discuss national cancer policies.

Nigel is also a member of the Clinical Outcomes Group of the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN), the Thames Cancer Registry Board, the Cancer Reform Strategy Advisory Board and the South East Coast Strategic Health Authrough (SEC SHA) Cancer Board. In Sussex, he is Vice Chair of the Network Executive Board, Chair of the Clinical Advisory Group and Chair of the Primary Care Cancer Leads Group.

His reponsibilities include -

• providing clinical leadership to the Tumour Groups and their Chairs
• providing clinical leadership in development of cancer services in line with national and local priorities
• leading development of clinical links outside the Network
• advising the Board on clinical governance issues
• providing leadership to the Network Clinical Leads for Head & Neck, Thyroid, Urology, Gynaecology, Upper GI and Skin cancers as well as the 4 CNS tumour site Clinical Leads, the SCN Public Health Director, and the Sussex Cancer Research Network Lead Clinician
